This photo was first published by the Reuters as an image of a "dead woman being carried by the Georgian soldiers from the town of Gori". But this "dead woman", incredibly, is clutching the nurse's arm.
This man exhibiting rage and grief happens to sit in the exact same place where the earlier picture was taken: the same pile of garbage is behind his back and scraps of metal from the picture of a "dead" woman being 'rescued' are lying around like in the earlier photo -- plus some, additional, unidentified scraps of metal. What are these supposed to represent?
The caption Reuters gave to this photo is "Georgians stand next to the body of their son in the town of Gori". The woman is looking up towards the sky from where, presumably, death had stricken "her son".
But for the purposes of this photo the body of the "son" has been obviously moved quite a bit away from the curb. This was clearly not done in order to cover up the naked parts of the dead man's body, nor to allow some measure of dignity to the dead. Was it done for the light? (One should challenge Reuters to find a mother -- any mother -- who would allow the body of her child to be dragged through dirt half naked like this, while she is taking instructions from a photographer where to stand, where to look and what to do next.

The body was not moved in the last two photos. The apparent distance from the background is due to wildly different telephoto levels used between the two photos. In both photos, the body is up against the same sidewalk. That sidewalk would be visible in the second photo had the body been moved forward.
If the body has been moved, full points for getting the pants folds exactly the same, and propping the little twigs up against the body in precisely the same way.
Regarding those last 2 pictures, you obviously have no knowledge of optics. The first picture was taken from a far distance with a telephoto lens, while the 2nd was taken from much closer with a wide angle lens.
In addition, the angle is slightly different.
Simple. Put picture 2 before picture one chronologically. In picture 2 you can see the body of the man in picture 1 behind the main subject. He's face up in picture two and the camera man is further away and at a lower angle. It's easy to assume that this picture was taken, then the medics came and possibly flipped the man over inspecting him.
In pictures 3 and 4 it's simply a matter of angle and possibly the type of lens. After an attack the woman could be looking to the sky if planes were involved. The picture is taken at a low angle. By the time she is safe and then reaches the body the camera man is closer and at a different angle. The key to seeing this is looking at the curb and the plant. At one angle the curb obscures part of the plant and the lower portion of the body. At the closer higher angle shot the plant is fully visible as is the rest of the body and more of the ground giving the appearance that theres greater distance and the body has been moved.
The man in the second image is crying for the death of a close relative, the one in the first image. Obviously, it is the same place. This image will clarify the story: http://www.quintatinta.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/georgia_uk_the_time.jpg
In the third image the photographer used a long objective from a far distance ("long zoom", if you prefer). In the fourth image the photographer changed to a short objective and went closer. Very short objective and very close, according to the extra-deformed perspective. I'm sure that when the photographer got so close the woman started to cry something like "let us alone, you bastard!" The dead body was not moved at all: notice the big stone just in the back of the body in both images.
Yes, the camera lens has changed. But...
Look closely at the wrinkles on the dead man's shirt. Do they not appear completely different between pictures?
Also, look closely at the tear in the back of his shirt, and the branches and berries behind him. Completely different.
Get your glasses on.
In pictures 3 and 4, the man's back is clearly against the same curb. That has not changed at all. The difference in distance between him and the farther curb is quite easily explained (by other's already) as an artifact of photography. As far as any changes to his shirt or the twigs, it's very possible that the woman who is greiving over him may have touched him, or hugged him. Or it's possible that with the different camera angle things look different. There's nothing to see here, move along.
I agree, last two pictures are not fake, you're just being fooled by the camera prospective of things. Did you see the curb in front of the dead guy is at the same distance?
Take the time to learn what you're talking about before you spout off.
First, there is no sidewalk behind the boy in the first photo, it looks more like a curb or a root. Second, the clothing has changed (not saying it couldn't be moved, but why). Third, it all looks highly staged. The photographer is going for candid shots, but those shot appear forced. Lastly, as a matter of perspective, in the first, all figures are of equal perspective. If this were a trick of extreme perspective and there were no differences in spacing, then all figures would retain that proportion in the second shot. The old man remains stationary between the shots, yet grows much smaller. What trick of photography would do this WHILE accounting for all these changes.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but it looks more than suspicious to me.
Fake poses. Photo #3 and #4, take a look at the area exposed near the "dead" man's middle left arm. In photo #3 it is almost non-existant. In photo #4 there is a huge amount of skin exposed. Also, the "dead" man's head is not in the same position. Changing optics on a camera from wide-angle to zoom will not account for these two anomalies.
Well it should be obvious but you guys were too busy arguing other technicalities(some of which could be legit, but the only way I could see this working in both photos is if the man were laying on a fairly sloped surface), but the position the camera is shooting from has changed, but the angle of the mans back to the camera has not. He's been moved.
Propaganda photos are sadly a tradition of the former Soviet union and now it looks like also a tradition of their sattelite republics.
Remember: GEORGIA started the war. They signed a treaty with South Ossetia granting them independance and the morning after the ink was dry the GEORGIANS commenced bombing South Ossetia. Too sure of their own quick victory, the Georgians forgot to shut down the freeway tunnel north to Russia.
Russian troops poured in from the North/South Ossetia tunnel and engaged the Georgian military.
So what you see in these photos is what we would call "a show". The Georgians are putting on a little show, with photos that scream "Oh, poor Georgia. Why, oh, why are the Russian doing this to us?! Look at this staged photo of a mother crying over her dead son?"
Notice in the photos there is no blood. The dead have no burns. Their clothes are mysteriously intact. That is not what war casualties look like.
Remember, who stands to gain? The Georgians foolishly gave the Russians an excuse to attack them by bombing South Ossetia. Now the Georgians are trying to play the victim, because if you lie repeatedly and hard enough many people seem to have trouble remembering the truth.
Google for Russian propaganda photos. It's a real thing, the Soviet equivelent of how Hollywood makes fake things look real on TV. When well done, the propaganda photos look very convincing, because people deep down want to believe what they see.
Do you want to go to war with Russia? Over the stupid decisions of the Georgian government? Remember, the Georgians started it. Now the Georgians want to play the victim. Keep that in mind, and enjoy the lies.
Cheers.
It is an optic effect caused by the lenses of the optic zoom!!!!!! / Es un efecto óptico provocado por las lentes del zoom óptico!!!!!
increible hasta que punto llega la manipulacion de los medios!!
Regarding the dragged body. It's not an optic effect because you can tell they dragged the body as the hole in the man's body's shirt has become quite larger.
So did optic effects make a large tear hole in his shirt too?
Those of you who say the body was moved in the last 2 images would make lousy forensic scientists. Not only is the apparent distance to the curb an optical distance and zoom effect, as anyone who studies photography would recognize, the body is indeed in the same spot, with the same wrinkles from a different angle (and hence different diffuse reflection).
Much is made of the tear, but in the first you are looking more down his bent back and it would look narrower. In the second you are more at a right angle to his back so it looks wider.
Look at big wrinkle in his pant leg for one, and especially the twigs/brush he is lying on. It starts low to the left of the rip and ends higher up a few inches to the left of the end of his shirt. It is roughly triangle in shape, and the right edge of this brush drops straight down and then juts out to the right. It is the same in both images, from a different perspective. Did them move it and position it the same, as well as his pants?
How about the little scrap the old guy is standing on? Did they move that too? It looks further away from the curb in the bottom one too, yet he's standing on it the same way in both.
To top it off, what purpose would moving make? Both photos are available and have essentially the same lighting and contents. It's not like they convey much different.
That would be a ton of effort to make them similar to produce virtually no difference that looks exactly what you'd expect from a different position and zoom.
Probability alone says this isn't fake.
it dont matter, CNN/FOX/US GOV PAID/etc trolls put up debates and say its not true in the first 1-5 posts, then it doesnt matter anymore because 90% of people read first and second comment and if it is what they want to hear they will move on, and 99% of americans do not want to think their government would do this to them, well the georgian government did it and so did US gov in 9/11/01. But noone wants to know the truth because the truth breaks hearts, and sends people to the death penalty in Texas, EH BUSH?
also PROPOGANDA wasnot a soviet union thing.. it was Nazi/US/soviet/japan/china/etc
everyone uses it and saying the russians started it is very far fetched. US was doing this WAY before the cold war...IF YOU DONT CARPOOL YOU RIDE WITH HITLER! that is WAY before COLD WAR, and that was just one of hundreds of posters plastered around the US in the 40
's.
The US has the most successful Propoganda campaign, second comes Organized Religion because hey its just PROPOGANDA.
I invoke Godwin's Law and declare this argument over.
In 3 & 4, it's called perspective distortion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perspective_distortion_(photography)
perspective distortion describes one of two phenomena – the appearance of a part of the subject as abnormally large, relative to the rest of the scene, or an apparent lack of distance between objects in the foreground and those behind them.
The 3rd photo shows the two old people RELAXED. The 4th photo shows them HYSTERICALLY distraught. Since the old lady's clothes are clean in the first photo, this proves that photos #3 and #4 are in correct sequence. The "dead" body's head has indeed moved,....and the most obvious reason is because the photo was STAGED!!!! DUH!,....anyone denying that would make a horrible forensic scientist. Fuck Georgia, their president needs to be hanged, just like dubya'.
THE BODY HAS BEEN MOVED IN THE LAST 2 PHOTOS!!!
YOU ONLY HAVE TO COUNT THE CREASES THAT ARE IN THE MAN´S SWEATER. in the 1st there are more creases than in the 2nd one.
disgusting this manipulation.
This is what real war photos look like:
http://vice.typepad.com/vice_magazine/2008/08/georgia---russi.html
Notice the cauterized blood. Vicera exposed to the air. The destroyed clothes. The unrehearsed facial expressions. The candid, relaxed body language.
All governments use propaganda. It's a sad fact. Some of it is sadly obvious and patronizing. Some propaganda is ingenious in its subtlety. All of it denies the true pain of war.
Here's an article by the author of War Nerd on the Georgia vs. Ossetia conflict:
http://www.exile.ru/articles/detail.php?ARTICLE_ID=7426&IBLOCK_ID=35&phrase_id=12157&PAGE=1
The heck the body was not moved!! Look at the shirt not only is it higher its ripped more and far more open UNDER him.
This is complete BS and propaganda at its best!
I CURSE ANYONRE THAT SPREADS THESE AND CLAIMS TRUETH
I normally don't look at guys butts but I am glad I did this time. In the last two pictures you can see the underwear line on the guys waist prominently in the first picture. In the second picture the shirt had been pulled down slightly. Why I don't know but I would dearly love to hear the "Photo Geniuses" on this site try to disprove that. to tell you the truth the angles actually back me up considering that you should be able to see more of his back in the second photo.
dnt care
Who cares? There're too many rumors coming out each day. Who knows which one is true and which one is not. It's said Britney is now on
***casualloving . c om***
finding her casual relationship. Do you believe it?
Are you people complete idiots?
YES the body has been moved, YES the wrinkles in the clothes are completely different, YES the twigs and stones indicate the "body" was moved several feet....
How dare you jerks make comments like "you have no knowledge of optics".
Comments like that are so idiotic, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Obviously he DOES know "optics" - perhaps you assholes need to buy a WHERE IS WALDO book and improve your eyesite.
The lady carrying the body is holding it by the root of the arms. That's why it looks like the dead body is holding her arm.
The body in the last 2 photos has been manipulated but not moved. More of the lower back is visible, revealing a mark not visible in the first photo.
HOWEVER, this does not prove stagery at all. No doubt propoganda is done in war, but there is no NEED to fake photos. There are enough dead on both sides to provide sympathy photos without the need for forgery.
Nice try, but the last 2 piccas show the same thing, the
Oh, my god .. the dead mans clothes have changed between photos..
Who could possibly have done that ?
Hint: Look closely at the picture and you might see a greeving relative.
reuters did the same thing in lebanon during the war with israel in 2006
cuanto les habran pagado a esos pobres por hacer el circo?? estos americanos no tienen verguenza
Thus they follow deceive the world
Both photos look very staged. Esp photo #3 - it looks like she is about to break out into an opera song.
And why is the old man poking the body with a gardening tool?
I read the script of the interview of the photographer Gleb Garanich (Ukrainian photographer of Reuters) who took these photos. Check yourself, ask your Russian neighbors to confirm the content) http://sevastopol.su/world.php?id=6132
Garanich says that the bombings took place at night and he was not at this time in Gori. But he had no reason to doubt that there were dead. He said that he did not do anything extraordinary: "you arrange fruits and flowers on the table and in vases if you want to have good picture".
Another quote: "My goal was to show the horror of the war. Do you expect the living to leave the dead where they were all day? Do you suggest that I had to bring dead to allow me to make a photo? I believe Georgians that there were dead". However, he did not confirm that he made any attempt to see these all edged dead corpses.
Judge for your self if your were cheated or not.

YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT! GEORGIA IS MAKING MARKETING WITH ALL THIS STUFF, AND OBVIOUSLY WITH THE US. FOR WHAT? FOR THE OIL, US NEED THAT BIG OIL PIPE.
GEORGIA DENIED A U.N. DECRET, AND START THE WAR WITH OSSETIA. RUSSIA THEN CAME TO THE SCENARY, TO "PROTECT" THEM, BUT THERE IS COMING A "CIVIL WAR", OR KIND OF THAT.
SORRY MY ENGLISH.
in case you do not have knowlwdge of it, maybe this helps in clarifying the issue.
just play it.

And the purported interview by the photographer Gleb Garanich to Echo Moskvy radio was a fake, as the radio itself stated: http://www.echo.msk.ru/blog/plushev/534579-echo/ (in Russian)
To all of you who think this is "fake".
Grow the fuck up.
I guess it's easier for your weak minds to imagine people staging death, than death actually occurring.
Jiminy Cricket, how lame are you?
As has been explained ad nauseum:
These images are of the same locations, from different angles, using different length lenses. From our eyes, perspective changes. From our eyes, light refracts differently.
But if you know anything about optics, you can instantly tell that these photos are NOT staged and they are NOT fake.
Fucking morons!
LISTEN ALL . This IS A BIG CRAP ALL IS FAKE NOtice how the man in photo 2 is in the exact same place as the peoples in phopo one ( in wich the dead guy grabs the nurse's hand) the ones WHo state that this is not fake are mere police/ intelligence officers who TRY to fool the weakest of minds
